Inspiring to make a difference

Your High School Year

Experience Ireland with InterStudies

A High School year with InterStudies is an amazing opportunity to experience the Irish culture at first hand. You’ll live with an Irish family. You’ll attend a local school alongside local students and other InterStudies exchange students. You’ll learn, explore, and have fun. When you go home you will have grown as a person, you’ll understand a different culture, speak fluent English (and a few words of Irish, no doubt), and you’ll have gained experience and knowledge that will stay with you for the rest of your life. When you are ready to apply, contact us, and we’ll help you get in touch with one of our partners in your home country, who will help you through the application process.

Life in Ireland

Your home away from home

Our first priority is to select the right host family for each of our students.

Our host families are warm and welcoming, they will welcome their student into their home, involve them in family life, and make them feel that they are part of the the family.  learn more

Who will I live with?

There’s no typical host family – just like there is no typical family. Everyone is different. What each of our families has in common, is a desire to learn about a student and their culture, while giving a young person the chance to explore the Irish culture.  learn more

Our families are carefully screened

Each and every host family is visited and interviewed by an InterStudies Local Support Coordinator before being accepted as an InterStudies host family.  Many of our families have hosted with us for years, and we know which student will fit with which family.  learn more

A long-lasting relationship

Students often form a close relationship with their host family and keep in touch for many years, with some returning to visit year after year.  learn more

School in Ireland

Many Irish schools have a long tradition of welcoming students from around the world. As well as the friendly welcome our students receive, students choose to come to Ireland to experience the high quality education system, and wide range of subjects.

School life

You’ll attend school alongside local students. You’ll have to study, attend classes and do your honework! In return, you’ll have a unique opportunity to experience everyday life in an Irish school, and make friends with local students as well as other exchange students from around the world.

After school you’ll be able to get involved with activities or sports in your local community, and spend time with friends and your host family.

The school day

The school day starts at around 9am in most schools, and you’ll be able to walk, cycle, or take public transport to school. All Irish students wear school uniform – and you will be expected to wear uniform as well, so you will blend in with local students.

You’ll have lunch in the school canteen (you can buy lunch, or take a packed lunch from your host family), and most schools offer sports or other activities at lunchtime and after school.
